What is Osteopathy ?

"My treatment approach is very gentle and patients are usually very relaxed during the treatment."

Osteopathy is over 150 years old
You will be reassured to know that Osteopaths are qualified statutory-regulated Primary Care Practitioners who must train for a minimum of four years in full-time degree education, including a minimum of 1,000 hours clinical supervision, before becoming registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). Osteopaths have a thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, the musculoskeletal system, neurological pathways, vascular and lymphatic systems as well as organ function. |
Osteopaths are skilled in palpation (touch) which reveals the inherent motions and restrictions within the body. The imprinted history of various stresses, strains, traumas, illnesses, and surgeries may also be perceived. The Osteopath applies manual treatment, using a range of gentle methods and subtle approaches, to restore mobility and vitality to dysfunctional tissues.
Many Osteopaths have an interest in treating babies & children, and will have undertaken Paediatric training at undergraduate and/or post-graduate level.
Osteopathy for children is very gentle & safe - it involves using our hands to kindly release tensions & strains from the body which may be causing a particular problem for your child.
Some Osteopaths, like myself, have undertaken additional training in the field of Cranial Osteopathy. Cranial Osteopathy uses a very refined form of touch enabling diagnosis and treatment of patterns of tension / dysfunction throughout the body, including the head.
